WARM UP

Display for sharing: In small paper books each teacher writes the best story he/she has told to student. We display the small books in the library so each teacher has access to other's experiences. It is an easy way to create a list of useful story books for children.

After watching the videos students make a list in group with the main ideas and we put in common. We can propose them to create a comic. Depending on the age they we can give them the pictures and they complete the bubbles or we can give them the language and they show understanding by drawing the scenes. We could also turn this activity into a drama task. Comics can be done in paper or using digital tools such as TOONDOO.

St. George's legend around the world:

  • Locate in the map the countries where St. George's Day is celebrated and we can talk about its connection with reading and books.

  • The St. George's legend has inspired many artists. Children can create their own drawings, paintings or small sculptures with clay or plasticine. They can explain their work later.

PRACTICE LANGUAGE AND CONTENT

Back to board game: The class is divided into two groups and the chairs are arranged in two lines. The first chairs of each line are back to board. We write a word or a sentence on the board. Both teams give clues taking turns and the children back to board must guess the word.

Picture dictation: We describe a dragon, a hero and a heroine and children must draw. They compare with their group mates and complete their drawings. They can label the main words.

PRODUCE LANGUAGE

Writing:

  • Create your hero and describe him or her

  • Mixed stories

Communicative activity - Identity  game with heroes: Children have got a card with the name of a hero. They cannot see their cards. They must ask their classmate in order to discover who they are (Can I…? Have I got…? Am I…?).
